2023-2024 Season Offerings
Experience #1 - MUFARO'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS
Grades K - 5th
October 9 - November 17, 2023
An African villager named Mufaro has two daughters whom everyone agrees are beautiful. But, they have their differences. Manyara possesses a bad temper and is self–centered (but never in front of Mufaro); Nyasha is kind and considerate to people and to animals. When Mufaro learns that the King is in the process of meeting all of the most worthy and beautiful women in order to choose a wife, he decides that both of his daughters should go. Celebrate goodness, generosity, and love with traditional dancing, rhythmic drumming, and glorious African song. Based on the 1988 Caldecott Honor Award book.
Experience #2 - OH FREEDOM! THE STORY OF THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
Grades 3rd - 8th
January 22 - March 1, 2024
The greatest collaboration against racism in American history before the Civil Rights Movement was the Underground Railroad, in which persons of all ethnic backgrounds from North and South came together to resist the oppression of slavery by helping escaped slaves make their way to free territory in the years before the Civil War. Oh Freedom! The Story of the Underground Railroad celebrates this collaboration combining the stories of the men and women who were active in the fight against slavery with songs of the period.
Experience #3 - JACK & THE BEANSTALK
Grades K - 5th
April 14 - May 24, 2023
In this fast-paced adaptation Jack and his mother are really poor now that the forest has been cut down. Sadly, all that’s left is for them to sell their cow, Milky White. Jack trades her for magic beans and by the next morning, the beanstalks have grown out of sight into the sky. Jack climbs up and enters the castle of the Giant and his wife! Ultimately Jack rescues a hen that lays golden eggs, a magic harp, and even more importantly, tree seedlings which will help the forest grow once again!
