One Night Only: Ragtime – Participant FAQ
Presented by FaithWORKS in collaboration
with Actors Theatre’s Community Partner Production Series
Why Are We Doing This?
FaithWORKS is proud to produce this powerful one-night-only concert as a way to bring our community together—on one stage, with one voice. Ragtime tells a timeless story of hope, struggle, and unity across lines of race, class, and identity. By sharing this music in a collaborative, community-centered way, we honor our differences while celebrating our shared humanity.
We also hope this event will serve as the inaugural production of a new annual tradition—a signature experience from FaithWORKS that uses the performing arts to uplift voices, bridge communities, and inspire connection through song and story.
About the Production
This is a Broadway in Concert-style staged reading of the full Broadway musical Ragtime, presented by FaithWORKS in collaboration with Actors Theatre’s Community Partner Production Series. The performance includes the complete script and score, delivered in a concert-style format with narration, expressive staging, and live musical performances.
While not a fully staged traditional production, this performance will feature select production numbers with enhanced visual and theatrical elements to elevate key moments in the story. The emphasis is on music, character, and storytelling, creating a deeply moving and accessible experience for performers and audience alike.
Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow, Ragtime is a Tony Award-winning musical with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and book by Terrence McNally. It follows the interwoven journeys of African Americans in Harlem, Jewish immigrants seeking a new life, and white upper-class families in early 20th-century America—each in pursuit of justice, identity, and the American Dream.
When is the performance?
The performance will take place on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 7:30 PM in the Pamela Brown
Auditorium at Actors Theatre of Louisville.
Venue Address:
Actors Theatre of Louisville
316 West Main Street
Louisville, KY 40202
Is This a Good Fit for You?
At FaithWORKS, we believe the production is simply the product of the process. We strive to create a fun-loving, positive, and community-centered environment where everyone feels supported and inspired to grow. We welcome participants with different levels of experience, talent, and training—and we strive together to achieve together.
This production requires a commitment to timeliness, collaboration, and kindness. While the time commitment is smaller than a full production, your presence and participation matter. We cannot create a meaningful, joyful experience if it is disrupted by negative attitudes or harsh creative energy. We’re building a functional, fun-loving, artistic family—one that values excellence without sacrificing encouragement and unity. If
that sounds like your kind of process, we’d love to have you with us.
What roles are available?
We are casting for the following:
• Onstage Choir (Community Choir/Ensemble) – No audition required. All voicetypes welcome.
• Featured Ensemble Vocalists – Multiple roles available. Requires audition.
• Dance Ensemble – Multiple opportunities for dancers. Requires audition.
• Principal Roles – Most have been cast. However, understudy opportunities may be available based on experience and availability.
Do I need to audition?
No, if you are interested in participating in the Onstage Choir.
Yes, if you are interested in a featured ensemble role or a dance ensemble role.
Is this a full production of Ragtime?
Not quite. This is a staged reading in concert format—a hybrid of script and song designed for one night only. While not a fully staged musical, the show will incorporate music, movement, narration, and visual elements to create a rich and powerful performance.
What is the rehearsal schedule?
We understand time is valuable, and we’ve designed a streamlined rehearsal process that prioritizes quality and eGiciency.
